ROHS certification is an environmental standard, the full name of the "Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive" (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive), is a regulation formulated by the European Union for electronic and electrical products. The main purpose of this standard is to limit the content of certain hazardous substances used in electronic and electrical products to protect human health and the environment.
The latest standard is RoHS 3.0, also known as EU RoHS Directive 2015/863. The standard, which came into effect in July 2019, requires lead, mercury, cadmium, hexvalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in electronic and electrical products. The content of ten harmful substances, including polyflame retardant DECA-BDE, dye fluorescent agent HBCDD, organotin compound Octylphenol ethoxylates (OPEs), and short-chain chlorinated paraffin (SCCP), must meet the limit standard set by the European Union. After the product passes the RoHS certification, it can be sold in the European market.
